Shinji ST Tanishima
I am Dr. Shinji Tanishima, a spine surgeon based in Japan, specializing in the treatment of degenerative spine conditions, trauma, infections, and particularly skilled in managing low back pain and the treatment of infectious spondylitis. My academic journey at Tottori University School of Medicine culminated in a Doctor of Medical Science degree, laying the groundwork for my role as Chief of the Spine Division at Tottori University Hospital since 2016. My dedication to spine surgery is matched by my commitment to research and community outreach, notably recognized in 2019 when I served as an Asia Travelling Fellow at the National University of Singapore, under the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research. My efforts in epidemiological surveys on low back pain and contributions to community health were honored with the Japan Prize from Bone and Joint Japan in 2024, highlighting my impact beyond the operating room. As a member of various spine surgery societies, my goal is to improve patient outcomes through innovative surgical techniques and comprehensive care, with a focus on low back pain, sarcopenia, and infectious spondylitis.
